Exclusive: 39-Image Sony Xperia 1 VII Leak Reveals Design, Colors & Features

The Sony Xperia 1 VII is right around the corner, and as we’re waiting for the launch event, we have a massive amount of information to share with you. We managed to get hold of not only official renders of all three colors of the phone, but also some marketing materials.

Sony Xperia 1 VII design and features detailed in a total of 39 images

Considering that we have a total of 39 images to share here, we’ll break things down so that it’s easier for you to consume. We’ll kick things off with the official renders, which will be laid out across three galleries below.

The Sony Xperia 1 VII is coming in Black, Green, and Purple colors. For each of those colors, you’ll find a separate gallery below, which shows the device from multiple sides. There’s nothing left to hide here, design-wise.

Green:

Purple:

Sony is sticking with its well-known design language here, there won’t be any major changes. The Xperia 1 VII is still a boxy ordeal, with a flat display, flat back, and flat frame. Its top and bottom bezels will be a bit thicker than on competing flagships in order to accommodate the selfie camera. That way, you don’t have a hole in the display itself.

All the physical buttons sit on the right-hand side of the phone, including the shutter key

All the buttons are placed on the right-hand side of the phone. A power/lock key sits below the volume up and down buttons, and it will serve as a fingerprint scanner too. Lower on that right side, you’ll notice a camera shutter key, which Sony users will be familiar with.

If we flip the phone around, you’ll notice a triple camera setup there. Those cameras are a part of one camera island, which is placed in the top-left corner of the phone’s back side. The cameras are vertically oriented, and they reveal some camera details on their own.

ZEISS collaboration is back, as is an audio jack

You’ll notice that Sony will use the ZEISS T* coating here, in order to battle glare. That is the same coating that Vivo uses on some of its phones, and it has been proven to be quite effective. Sony has been using it for years. Furthermore, the first two cameras are reserved for ultrawide and main (wide-angle) cameras, while the bottom one is the periscope telephoto unit. There is also an audio jack up top.

Let’s jump over to marketing materials. Do note that these materials are in Japanese. We did our best to pull out as much information from them as possible. So, you’ll see them all in the gallery below (20 images), while we’ll talk more about what’s said in them below, in no specific order.

The Sony Xperia 1 VII will come with a display that is boosted by BRAVIA technology. Sony actually uses two illuminance sensors here, on front and back sides, so that the phone can display optimal brightness and colors. That display will also be easily visible in direct sunlight, thanks to a special Sunlight mode.

The device will include a 5,000mAh battery and offer “two-day battery life”

A 5,000mAh battery will be included inside the device and provide a two-day battery life, Sony’s materials claim. That is based on a special test Sony conducted. Based on the company’s previous devices, battery life shouldn’t be a problem.

It is also said that the phone will get four Android OS updates and six years’ worth of security updates. Android 15 will come pre-installed on the device, in case you were wondering.

Lock Focus feature is mentioned, as is the Autoframing option

Sony is well-known for its camera prowess, and this phone will be packed with camera features. In the marketing materials, the ability to lock focus on a subject is mentioned. The same goes for the Autoframing option.

Speaking of cameras, the phone will also come with a brand new ultrawide unit. Sony says that this unit is 2.1x times larger than the one used in the Xperia 1 VI. Needless to say, that’s great news. As a reminder, the Xperia 1 VI shipped with a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera, which used a 1/2.5-inch sensor and an f/2.2 aperture.

Sony hypes up the phone’s macro photography prowess

Sony also touts great low-light camera performance from the device, and stellar macro photography with high-quality details.

The phone will include full-stage stereo speakers. Low-to-mid range has been improved by about 10% (compared to the Xperia 1 VI). These marketing materials confirm that the phone will support Hi-Res Audio and Hi-Res Audio Wireless. LDAC support will also be on board, as will DSEE Ultimate.

Previous reports mentioned the Snapdragon 8 Elite, 12GB of RAM, and more

That is pretty much everything that these marketing images share. Some previous leaks did share other spec information, however. So we know to expect the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor on the inside, Qualcomm’s most powerful chip.

A Geekbench listing also reported that at least one variant of the phone will include 12GB of RAM. Sony will likely use LPDDR5X RAM here. CAD renders of the phone also surfaced not long ago, and the phone was also spotted in a certification listing.

Based on rumors, the Sony Xperia 1 VII will feature an Exmor T sensor on all rear-facing cameras. An upgraded periscope telephoto sensor will be used as well, with a size of around 1/2-inch.

Sony will announce its new flagship on May 15

The Sony Xperia 1 VII will debut on May 15. Sony has confirmed its launch date not long ago, and the event will be hosted in Japan. Chances are that the global unit will arrive a bit later on, as usual.
