Epic Games has slowly been creating a safe space for Android games that are free from the Google Play Store. The newest Epic Games addition is a title that hasn’t been around in some time — Flappy Bird.
Flappy Bird is often remembered as a title that sparked mobile gaming in some way. It sits in a similar vein to JetPack Joyride or Angry Birds. It’s not complex, but it’s integral to mobile gaming’s history simply because it was easy to pick up and play for an ungodly amount of time.
After an absence from Android, Epic Games is bringing Flappy Bird back on the Epic Games Store app for Android. The app will list the title as a free edition, supported by in-game ads. Flppy Bird Publishing noted that the game will continue to see development and that this isn’t a case of a classic title coming to the store without support.
The publishers also noted that the game will not carry any Web3 elements, referencing a previous initiative to bring the game into the crypto age. That, of course, failed, and the company is now looking to relive the old days of ad-based monetization and in-app purchases and simple flapping for hours on end. There’s no word on how purchases will be implemented, but we may see some form of “f-bucks,” if the current gaming landscape has anything to say about it.
