Custom Feed Builder Graze Will Monetize Itself On Bluesky
The goal of every business is to make money. Even when services are free, like Google Search, Gmail, X, Facebook, etc., these companies find ways to monetize them. So it’s no surprise that Graze, a custom feed builder for the Bluesky social media platform, might have found a way to monetize itself.
Graze is a custom feed builder for Bluesky. This means that instead of being forced to adapt to the platform’s own algorithm, which users have no choice when it comes to Facebook, Instagram, or X, people have more options and flexibility because they can create custom feeds that contain posts more to their liking and interests.
According to Graze, they are planning to allow feed creators to monetize their efforts with advertising, sponsored posts, and subscriptions. This will give creators an alternative source of revenue and spark the creation of new jobs. This will rely on Bluesky’s new Jetstream which aggregates public data updates from the network.
What’s interesting about these monetized custom feeds is that the feed’s operator controls the ads shown. This is versus other advertising platforms where anyone can buy ad space. This allows feed operators to display ads that might be more relevant to their users and pass on ads that don’t align with their values.
These ads also do not collect users’ personal data. Instead, advertisers will have to pick the feeds they want to reach. So, for example, an advertiser for pet food products might choose feeds focused on pets instead of a feed aimed at cycling enthusiasts.
Twitter alternative
Many social media platforms have been popping up over the years, so if you’re having difficulty keeping track, you’re not alone. Bluesky, for those unfamiliar, is an alternative platform to X (formerly known as Twitter). In fact, Bluesky was founded by Jack Dorsey, Twitter’s co-founder. Dorsey actually announced Bluesky while he was CEO at Twitter.
The idea was to explore the possibility of creating a decentralized version of Twitter, and Bluesky was one of the projects. One of the main differences between Bluesky and other social media platforms is that it is built with an open source framework. This allows people outside of Bluesky to see how the platform is built. This allows for more independent audits. It also led to the creation of services like Graze.
In terms of functionality, Bluesky is more akin to Twitter/X than other social media platforms like Facebook or Instagram. It allows users to post short text messages, also known as microblogging. Bluesky is not alone in trying to replicate the Twitter experience. Ever since Elon Musk purchased Twitter, several alternatives have popped up. This includes Mastodon, Post, and Pebble. Even Meta is trying to emulate Twitter/X with its Threads platform.
