Chrome For Android Preps 'Appearance' Settings With Dark Mode And Toolbar Shortcut

Google is making a welcome tweak to Chrome for Android which will add a dedicated “Appearance” section that makes it easier to find two key settings.

As spotted by ChromeStory, the latest Chrome for Android update in the Canary release channel adds a new “Appearance” section to the Settings menu. The new menu pulls in the existing “Theme” and “Toolbar shortcut” pages and puts them into a central location.

It’s a minor change, but one that helps to clean up Chrome’s Settings just a bit.

This menu also matches one of the subheadings in Chrome’s desktop settings menu. Similarly, it contains settings for the theme as well as the toolbar, along with several other options. That’s certainly a welcome change for familiarity across platforms.

Currently, this change is only present in the Canary release and, even then, it needs to be enabled as a flag before it actually shows up in Chrome for Android. As such, it’s unclear when this will be rolled out more widely.

If Google ever gets around to adding a bottom-bar UI option, it stands to reason it’d appear here as well.
