Samsung is known for pushing the boundaries of foldable phones. However, they’ve just shown off a prototype that’s truly a blast from the past, mixed with a dash of future tech. At Display Week 2025, they revealed the Samsung Polygon Foldable, a device that looks straight out of a 90s sci-fi movie—think “retro-futuristic.”

Android Authority got a chance to go hands-on with this intriguing concept. While it sports the familiar clamshell design of a Galaxy Z Flip, its angular, almost geometric lines immediately bring the Tesla Cybertruck to mind. It’s a bold departure from today’s sleek, minimalist gadgets. Surprisingly, the device feels solid and pleasantly “heavy” with its metallic build. This is a nice change from ultralight phones like the latest Galaxy S25 Edge.

This “retro-futuristic” vibe means the Polygon Foldable isn’t about maximizing screen real estate. The outer display, for instance, doesn’t stretch to the edges. But that’s a deliberate design choice, adding to its unique charm. It’s less about ultimate practicality and more about a fun, eye-catching aesthetic.

Now, don’t get too excited about buying one just yet. This prototype is only partially functional. While you can use some features, the UI felt a bit “wonky” to Android Authority. Plus, the external cameras were just for show. It seems like an experimental playground where Samsung’s engineers had a lot of fun.

It’s highly unlikely we’ll ever see the Samsung Polygon Foldable hit the market in its current form, or even anything very similar. It really goes against the modern design trends dominating the industry. Still, it’s a refreshing reminder that innovation doesn’t always have to follow a straight line.
