Beeper Launches Revamped Desktop And IOS Apps In Beta To Match The Android App

Following a revamp of its Android app last year, Beeper is now bringing updated apps to both desktop platforms and iOS in beta to match the updated design and functionality.

Beeper’s new Android app – launched in March 2024 – was built in part out of the remains of Beeper Mini, which Apple killed in the infamous iMessage story. The new app not only looked aesthetically better, but also brought a ton of functional upgrades and made everything a lot faster.

Now, those upgrades are coming to other platforms.

Announced this week, Beeper will launch updated desktop (Windows, macOS, and Linux) apps as well as an updated iOS app. These are available now in beta, and will expand to a full release in the future. The iOS app is available via TestFlight while the desktop apps are available for direct download via Beeper’s website.

The new apps will eventually support on-device encryption instead of relying on Beeper’s cloud services, and also support the ability to have multiple accounts for the same service/network at the same time. The macOS app will also support iMessage in time.

In a blog post, Beeper says that these new apps have been in the works since the app was bought out by Automattic in 2024. The new desktop app is built in part on “the foundations of the Texts desktop app,” as the Beeper and Texts.com teams were merged.

This is also the first big update we’ve heard from Beeper in quite some time. Beeper’s founder, Eric Migicovsky, quietly left the company in 2024.
