Audio Overviews Are Coming To Google Docs

Summary: Google announced that it’s going to bring Audio Overviews over to Google Docs. This will allow users to make AI-generated podcast-style discussions from their documents.

Last year, when Google introduced Audio Overviews, we were all blown away. It was one of the more interesting announcements during Google I/O, trading blows with the likes of Project Astra. Later, the company brought this feature over to NotebookLM, and it eventually made it to Gemini for web.

This tool creates podcast-style discussions, all generated from AI. While potentially problematic, this could prove to be a useful tool for people who learn better with audio feedback. If you’re a person who wants to try out Audio Overviews, you can try it out from within NotebookLM. It’s free to use, but we don’t know how long it will remain free, so you’d want to make a point to take a look.

Google Docs is one of the most useful tools that exists in Workspace. The company has also added some useful AI features to it over the past year, and there are plenty more to come. According to the company, Audio Overviews is one of them.

Being able to craft a podcast out of available information could be useful, especially for large and important files. This is why Audio Overviews are a perfect fit for Google Docs.

The company is rolling this feature out right now, but not everyone will get to use it. For starters, the rollout will take a number of weeks, so you’ll need to be patient. Also, you’ll only be able to try it if you’re a Gemini Alpha program customer.

Unlike with NotebookLM, you won’t be able to use it for free. We don’t know if Google plans to distribute this tool to free users eventually or keep it locked behind a paywall. In any case, we’re going to start seeing more of Audio Overviews, as the feature has proven to be pretty popular.
