Asus ROG Phone 9 FE Launches With Snapdragon 8 Gen 3

Following up on the ROG Phone 9 series released last year, Asus is not debuting a more affordable ROG Phone 9 FE that runs on last year’s chip.

The Asus ROG Phone 9 FE carries over most of the features and design elements of the company’s high-end model (via GSMArena).

It has the same 163.8 x 76.8 x 8.9 mm measurements and weighs in at 2g lighter than the other two devices. It further has a 6.78-inch FHD AMOLED display at up to 185Hz (varying two 165Hz or 120Hz in most scenarios) as well as 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage.

Even the cameras are very similar with a 50MP main camera, 13MP ultrawide, and 5MP macro camera on the back. A 32MP selfie camera sits up front in a hole punch cutout. These are the same cameras as the ROG Phone 9, and only a downgrade from ROG Phone 9 Pro. It also retains an IP68 rating, 5,500 mAh battery with 65W charging (down from 5,800 on ROG Phone 9), wireless charging, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The only meaningful difference is the swap from Snapdragon 8 Elite to 2024’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

As a result of that, though, the cost is lower.

So far, Asus has only launched ROG Phone 9 FE in Thailand where it costs THB 29,990. ROG Phone 9 isn’t available in the country, but ROG Phone 9 Pro is, and it costs THB 39,990, making this device about 25% cheaper. It’s unclear when it might expand to other regions.
