All these years, Apple didn’t allow migrating your purchased apps and digital content between Apple accounts. But that’s changing now. Apple has announced that it will finally allow moving digital purchases from one Apple account to another. The company has even published an official support article detailing how to do it.
Apple now allows moving digital purchases from one Apple account to another
Apple says that you can choose to migrate apps, music, books, movies, and other content purchased on a secondary account to a primary one. This is useful if you have a primary account with iCloud signed in and a secondary account only for media and purchases. However, moving purchases from a primary account to a secondary account is not possible.
Moving on, you’ll need the primary email address, phone number, and password of both accounts to move purchases. There are a few things the tech giant needs you to make sure of before you can start the migration process. Firstly, the secondary account shouldn’t be part of a different Family Sharing group, and must not have been used for purchase sharing.
Next, you should enable two-factor authentication for both accounts. Additionally, both accounts should have the same country and region for purchases. Moreover, you should also spend any remaining balance on the secondary Apple account and ensure you do not have any pre-orders or rentals.
Here’s how to migrate purchases from a secondary account to a primary account
First, head to the Settings app. Then, go to Media and Purchases > View Account > Migrate Purchases. Once you complete moving all your purchases, make sure to log out of your secondary account on all devices. After this point, you’ll no longer be able to make purchases using that account.
This feature is currently only available for users in the US. Those living in the UK, European Union (EU), and India can’t use this feature for now. Speaking of the UK, the government secretly ordered Apple to let them access users’ encrypted data.
