Apple has many services under its belt. In his Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman reports that Apple plans to introduce a new event-planning service called “Confetti.”
Event-based service
The report claims that Confetti is part of Apple’s iCloud service. It will help users manage their upcoming events and also send out invitations. This is actually not the first time that we’ve heard rumors of this service. Back in 2024, the folks at 9to5Mac discovered evidence of its existence in the iOS 18.3 beta code.
From what they found, it suggested that the app could help users organize meetings and in-person events. These are already features available in the iOS Calendar app, so it will likely come with additional features that will make it more appealing. The code also hints that there could be a web version of the service, which will make it easier for users to manage their events and invites without having to reach for their phones.
However, we shouldn’t have to wait long to find out more about Confetti. The report claims that this service’s launch is tied to iOS 18.3. This means that Apple could launch it this week or next week. So, we should have more details about the app and service soon.
Making native apps relevant again
With every major iOS update, Apple introduces new apps and features and updates existing ones. Sometimes, there are certain apps that are overlooked or don’t get the attention they deserve. The native Calendar app on iOS is one of them.
Don’t get us wrong; the app works just fine. However, it does lack certain features which is why many third-party apps like Fantastical, Calendar 366, and Any.do are extremely popular alternatives. This is why the launch of a service like Confetti could be a good way for Apple to get more users to start using its native apps again.
According to Gurman’s newsletter, Apple has been looking to revamp its calendar app for some time now. The launch of this Confetti event-planning service is apparently one of the ways Apple is going about doing it. That being said, the default Calendar app already has these features, so it remains to be seen how different Confetti is and whether or not it could prompt more users to start using Apple’s own services instead of relying on third-party apps.
