Apple Agrees To Add Warning Labels To AirTags

Apple has agreed to add new warning labels to its AirTags accessories. The company has announced the news in response to a recent government violation. Apple will now update its AirTag tracking devices and the Find My app with new warning labels. Notably, these labels aim to address many safety concerns related to the tiny tracking accessory’s batteries.

Apple’s AirTag violated the Reese’s Law claims the US government

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recently notified the Cupertino tech giant that the AirTag was violating Reese’s Law. This law requires that electronic devices containing button cell or coin batteries must clearly indicate warning labels. This is to prevent children from accidentally swallowing them. This can lead to severe health risks.

Furthermore, according to the CPSC’s statement, the Apple AirTags units imported after March 19, 2024 did not have the required on-product warning labels. The shipping box of these devices also did not include such warnings. This puts the children’s safety at risk.

Apple has now added a warning symbol

Notably, Apple has now started adding a warning symbol inside the battery compartment of the AirTags. It has also updated the packaging to show similar warnings. Also, the Find My app for these devices now includes a warning message about the problems of hazards of button and coin cell batteries. This will appear whenever users replace the AirTag’s battery. The app’s warning will inform even those with older devices about the risks.

It’s worth mentioning that this isn’t the first time AirTag has been under scrutiny. Since its launch, people have raised concerns about the potential misuse of these devices for stalking or tracking others without their consent. Notably, Apple did implement multiple safeguards to address these privacy issues. The new warning labels add another layer of security to these devices.

That said, Apple is selling a single AirTag for $29. You can also purchase a combo of four devices by paying $99. Notably, some e-commerce portals are selling these devices at slightly discounted price tags.
