Google’s Android Auto platform is constantly evolving, adding new features and changing others. For some users, a handy new option seems to have been made available with the option to press a readily available button to exit back to your car’s infotainment system.
For a long time now, Android Auto has featured a button in the app drawer that allows users to quickly jump back into their car’s native software. This option is handy for exiting the system if you car doesn’t have its own shortcut for this, but it’s also not the fastest option – something that’s important when you’re behind the wheel.
Some users have noticed recently that Android Auto is showing a new button for exiting back to the native system in the corner of the screen next to the time and signal/battery status icons. This new shortcut allows users to quickly jump back to their car’s native software with just a single tap. That’s very handy for getting to radio controls, car settings, and other features you might need access to while en route.
This option seems to either not be widely rolling out or only appearing on certain vehicles.
Users on Reddit say that the button works well, with reports of it showing up in multiple Toyota vehicles that lack a native way to jump back to the car’s infotainment system while Android Auto is active. One user says they saw the button appear on a Hyundai vehicle “a month ago” before it disappeared. A Lexus driver also spotted the button on their vehicle too.

While many cars do have either a physical button or a touchscreen button to access the car’s own homescreen easily, this option in Android Auto makes everything a lot easier for users without that option.
Are you seeing this new button?
