At the basis of all Android 16 QPR1 design shifts, the Settings app carries the most colorful change. The new app gets new icon colors throughout, adding a little bit of life to the options haven.
Android 16 QPR1 launched during Google I/O 2025 in a surprise release. The new OS version takes on a lot of design changes with Material 3 Expressive, which marks a new design language for Google and developers. Elements like the lock screen have taken on a bolder look.
The Settings app in Android 16 QPR1 has a new coat of paint. Considering the previous look takes on several shades of gray, it’s a welcome change. In Android 16, each category gets a different color, with some similar categories sharing the same hue. These colors fall within the pastel color scheme Google has been using for some time, though the Settings app now feels a lot different.

There doesn’t seem to be a strict rhyme or reason to the colors shared between categories. Connected devices and Network & internet get the same light blue, while Apps is the only category with a darker blue. Both System and About phone are still gray, for what it’s worth.
The new change to the Settings app in Android 16 doesn’t seem to bring anything different in terms of functionality. The app is simply a little brighter to match the overall redesign Android 16 QPR1 is bringing to the table.
