Android 16 Drops Today — Goodbye Beta, Hello Stability

Google has confirmed that the stable release of Android 16 will land today, June 10. Needless to say, that means that the Pixel users will be able to get the taste of Android 16 in its stable form, no more beta software.

Google is bringing the stable version of Android 16 to Pixel phones later today

Google announced that this is happening via its Android Developers account on X. You can see the announcement embedded below, along with a nice Android animation the company included.

The company has been testing Android 16 for about six months at this point. It was confirmed a while back that Android 16 will launch earlier than usual, that it’s coming in June, so… this is not exactly unexpected.

This release does come at the same time the June 2025 Feature Drop is expected, so… there’s plenty to look forward to, actually. There should even be some content for non-Pixel phones, that won’t be able to update to Android 16 yet.

Material 3 Expressive design is coming later this year

Do note that this update will not bring Google’s new Material 3 Expressive design to the table. That change is coming later this year. So the change that is most expected by many won’t be included just yet. We already knew that, however.

The Advanced Protection mode is expected, however, in order for Google to boost security on Android 16. Google will place all security options under a single menu, not to mention add some new information too.

More different features are expected later in the year. We’ll get some new stuff today, but the most notable changes will have to wait a bit. Still, this is Android 16 we’re talking about, so today is quite exciting. Apple announced iOS 26 and macOS 26 yesterday, and today is Google’s day.
