Alienware Launches New Area-51 Gaming PC With An RTX 5080

Alienware is one of several PC gaming brands that has launched desktops powered by the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50-series GPUs, with its first model being the latest version of the Area-51 with an RTX 5080 inside.

If you’re a PC gaming enthusiast and you were going to try your hand at getting one of the standalone 50-series GPUs, you’re unfortunately out of luck. At least when it comes to normal prices, as all that seems to be available if you can find any stock, are listings from scalpers. Of course, restocks will happen in time. Thankfully, there’s also the option of just buying a pre-built gaming PC.

Alienware is launching the new Area-51 with an RTX 5080 GPU inside today, and you can pre-order it right now directly through the Dell website. The new Area-51 comes in two different configurations, but the only differences really, are the amount of RAM and storage.

Both configurations come powered by the Intel Core Ultra 9 285K CPU, and both feature the same design for the chassis. They also use the power supply, which is a 1500W Platinum Rated ATX12VO PSU. Naturally, both also run on Windows 11. Pricing starts at $4,449.99 and this gets you 32GB of DDR5 XMP 6400 MT/s RAM and 2TB of storage. You can bump up to 64GB of RAM and 4TB of storage, but the price jumps to $5,049.99.

Alienware is only selling the Area-51 with an RTX 5080 for now

While the RTX 5080 models of the Area-51 are available starting today, you’ll have to wait a bit if you want to go for the RTX 5090 model. As of right now, only the RTX 5080 models are launching. Alienware says the RTX 5090 models of the Area-51 PC will be available soon, however. It’s worth noting that the company does not mention a specific launch date. For the RTX 5080 model, units will ship out in March and buyers will get them as soon as March 25. It could take a couple of extra days if you do the standard shipping.

Scalable CPU liquid cooling, and a system that’s “whisper-quiet”

Alienware’s newest desktop gaming PC has some impressive specs and as always, it’s a stylish piece of hardware. What has us more excited, however, is the scalable CPU liquid cooling and the promise of a whisper-quiet system. Some gaming PCs can be so loud you have to put on headphones to avoid the noise. Either that or you need to crank your volume to drown it out.

According to Alienware, the new Area-51 is whisper-quiet. So you can pump out performance and enjoy your games at the highest settings. While we haven’t tested this ourselves (we’d certainly like to), it seems pretty likely that this is accurate. The Area-51 has a unique pressurized architecture that results in 25% more airflow compared to older models.

In addition to the low noise from fans, you can also scale the CPU liquid cooling. There are two options for this PC, including a 240mm AIO or a 360mm AIO. Both of these are also top-mounted, which allows for support of up to a 420mm heat exchanger. It is worth noting that the pre-built configurations Alienware has listed come with the 360mm option. At present, it doesn’t look like you can choose the smaller, 240mm hardware, which we imagine would make the PC a tad bit cheaper.

Overall, Alienware’s new PC appears to be a beast. At these prices, however, it has us wondering just how much the RTX 5090 model will be.
