AirFly Pro 2 Bluetooth Adapter Launches With Qualcomm AptX Audio

It isn’t realistic to suggest that the 3.5mm audio jack is dead, and there are scenarios where that’s the only option for audio. With a transmitter like Twelve South offers, users can turn 3.5mm audio jacks into Bluetooth transmitters, bridging that gap between wireless and wired. The company just announced the AirFly Pro 2 model, bringing some small changes to what’s offered.

Bluetooth transmitters need to do one job well, but some quality-of-life features can improve certain options. Twelve South has done a decent job of this while offering a very simple Bluetooth transmitter option. The new version seems to take that a small but important step further.

The AirFly Pro 2 was just announced as an improved version of the original AirFly Pro. According to the company, there are a couple of improvements to justify an upgrade. The AirFly 2 brings a dedicated on/off switch that can power the device into pairing mode. This also upgrades the pairing process, making it a little easier.

The AirFly Pro 2 also brings dedicated volume buttons, which seemed like an oversight in the original model. The volume rocker is blatantly placed on the front for ease of access. Another change is the “25+” hours of playback as opposed to the 25 hours on the AirFly Pro variant.

Not much is mentioned about audio quality, though AirFly notes that the AirFly Pro 2 has aptX support via Qualcomm, which is definitely an upgrade. It’s also worth mentioning that the AirFly Pro 2 acts as both a transmitter and receiver, which makes it a good car adapter for vehicles without Bluetooth. With aptX codec compatibility, audio should be better going both ways.

The AirFly Pro 2 comes in at $5 more than the original Pro model — $59.99. The transmitter is now currently available through the company’s website.
