Some users have reported a new YouTube homepage bug that allows the recommendation page to appear with few or no videos. YouTube is aware of the new bug and seems to be working on a fix.
A post on YouTube’s official community forum comes from one of the team moderators, and it addresses a bug that has gained some traction recently. The glitch apparently allows YouTube to open with a homepage devoid of all recommended videos. In some cases, it does show videos, but the presented options are very few.
YouTube notes that the homepage bug issue may also result in a few recommended videos that aren’t to your taste. In other words, the recommendations are all wrong for you. This comes from reports Google has been receiving from users, though we haven’t been able to replicate the issue on our end. The post does have more than 80 votes, indicating that others are facing this same issue.
It’s also noted that YouTube’s homepage bug is appearing both on mobile and on desktop or web, which indicates it could be an algorithm issue where the app is no longer presenting catered options correctly. In any case, it’s annoying and only serves to harm creators, as recommendations drive traffic.
The forum post doesn’t specify that the YouTube team is working on a fix for the homepage bug just yet, though they are still “investigating the issue.” As of now, there is no fix.
