The Motorola Razr series is getting a new lineup of foldables after the success of the Razr 50 series. The new Razr 60 lineup will include a version with wood backing, something not so foreign to Motorola.
The last few years have shown users that phones are all about metal. Aluminum and titanium dominate the flagship market, and there’s good reason for that. Even on a lot of these metal devices, a glass backing is often used to facilitate wireless charging. That said, it has been a long time since we’ve seen a wood grain finish on the back of a phone.
New leaks have come out of the woodwork showcasing a grained rear panel on the upcoming Motorola Razr 60 Ultra — Razr+ 2025 if you’re into calendrical monikers. The leak comes in the form of a video via @evleaks. A 360-degree view shows off the Razr 60 Ultra opening and closing, with a clear view of the wood back panel.
The render shows off a clear wood grain, but it’s hard to tell if it’s real wood or a clone. The material seems to take on a glossy sheen, which isn’t exactly vindictive of real wood.
This wouldn’t be the first time Motorola has done this. The Moto X was a hugely successful Android phone that offered a custom wood rear panel. The feature was part of the Moto Maker promo, where users could create custom Moto X designs. That rear panel was gorgeous and highly sought after.
Even at higher costs, Motorola likely wouldn’t be taking on a big risk by offering a wooden version. The fact is that only half of the phone needs to be covered, and the other half is way more expensive. There are no details on pricing or availability, but the leak does spurn some interest in what should be an exceptional phone.
