After first surfacing a couple of months ago and clearly being ready to release imminently, the Walmart Onn 4K Plus streaming device with Google TV is now showing up in stores, offering another fresh look at the device and also revealing that it supports USB-C hubs.
Earlier this month, we captured a Walmart listing that revealed that the retailer’s next Google TV device, the Onn 4K Plus, would sell for $29.88. The listing has since been removed, but it’s obvious the launch is coming up very soon. Now, just as we suspected, Onn 4K Plus is showing up at local stores.
As pictured above and spotted by u/PracticalRanger5977 on Reddit, some Walmart locations have put the Onn 4K Plus out on shelves. The device is priced at the expected $29.88 and sits right next to Roku devices, Google TV Streamer, and Walmart’s Onn 4K Pro and Onn 4K, at least in this particular Iowa location.
This may not be the case for every Walmart store, but this is what has happened with each prior release. The website listing appears, then it shows up on store shelves where it may or may not be available to purchase, and then within a few weeks, Walmart quietly opens up sales. It’s a little messy in our book, but it’s a familiar process at this point, and this is a sign that we can expect open sales within the next couple of weeks.
Beyond showing up in stores, YouTuber SuperDell-TV also got his hands on an Onn 4K Plus unit, showing the device in more detail. This is the same creator who offered an early look at Onn 4K Pro last year.
As expected, Onn 4K Plus is a Google TV device with minimal interface. It has a USB-C power plug and an HDMI port, and that’s all. A button is also on the side (presumably used for finding the remote), but it’s a very simple device in terms of hardware. An HDMI cable and power cord are still included in the box, as is the same remote used on the Onn 4K Pro (though it’s not backlit). There’s no Ethernet or external storage, at least not unless you’re willing to fiddle with an external dongle. This is Walmart’s first Google TV device leveraging USB-C, allowing the device to gain some extra ports, which was tough on prior generations. SuperDell also showed in a live stream that, yes, the USB-C dongle does work for Ethernet.
A dive into the software reveals nothing surprising, with an Android 14 base, just like Google TV Streamer. There’s also 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage, around 11GB being usable. During the same live stream mentioned earlier, the device was also confirmed to support Google TV’s new QR code-based setup flow.
Again, there’s no release date for this product yet, but it sure seems like it’s right around the corner. When it does go on sale, it should show up on Walmart’s website right alongside other Onn streamers.
