OnePlus has always been pretty good when it comes to its official cases, but that took on new importance with the OnePlus 13 as the brand skipped over Qi2 and instead put magnets into its first-party cases. The “Wood Grain” OnePlus 13 case is a standout among the lineup, but some users have run into issues with it in that it’s not easy to come off.
Available for $39.99, the “Wood Grain Magnetic Half-pack Case” for OnePlus 13 is just what the name implies, a case that mimics the look and feed of real wood and has magnets inside for chargers and accessories. The case isn’t made entirely of wood, but rather uses a “wood veneer” on the surface to create that authentic look and feel.
OnePlus says:
The OnePlus 13 Wood Grain Magnetic Case is crafted with one-of-a-kind wood grain for you and you alone. The one that belongs to you is waiting for you. The more distinct wood grain is hot pressed from wood veneer. It not only preserves the organic touch, but also delivers the power of nature from the palm of your hand to the depths of your heart.
As I’ve revisited the OnePlus 13 personally over the past couple of months (between using the OnePlus Watch 3 in February and, more recently, simply using it again alongside my Pixel 9 Pro Fold), this is the case I’ve been using, and I have to say it’s quickly become a favorite. While the grippy design of the OnePlus 13 doesn’t need a case if you ask me, this is the one case in the company’s lineup that delivers the thin profile that I enjoy while adding the magnetic ring that I really want.
However, some users haven’t had the best experiences with it. Some user reports on Reddit have been spotlighted recently where the case is almost impossible to remove. One user even said their phone was bent in the process of trying to remove the case, while another example saw someone “near bleeding” while taking the case off.
Personally, I did quickly notice that the wood case is hard to remove from the OnePlus 13, but it seems OnePlus knows that too.
On the store listing for this case, OnePlus directly explains “how to disassemble the case,” describing how to take it off in a step-by-step guide. It does require the right process to get the case off easily.
Hold the phone horizontally with both hands with the screen facing you. Place your thumbs on the upper left and right corners of the protective case. Push to remove the upper right corner of the protective case with your right thumb, while holding it with your fingertips to prevent it from rebounding. Push the protective case with your left thumb to remove it completely.
Understandably, some consider that an issue, and it seems that a few cases have been especially problematic. But, for others just running into difficulties removing the case, I do hope that the guide below helps out.
