Android 15 is still making it to phones at the moment, but Android 16 is well on its way through beta testing. We’ve already seen some interesting features so far, and the beta testing phase isn’t over yet. Google just released the Android beta 16.2, but if you’re expecting major changes, you’re going to be disappointed.
What does Android beta 16.2 bring?
Google released the latest update which has build number BP22.250124.010. Rather than bringing some rumored features or changing the aesthetics, this update fixes some of the issues brought with the last update.
The first issue it fixes (#396603519) prevented phones from entering Doze mode. We don’t hear about this feature too much nowadays, as it was introduced back when Android 6 Marshmallow launched. This is the feature that puts your phone in a low-powered state when you don’t touch it for a while. So, it’s good to know that it’s coming back.
Next issue fixed (#397659072) caused the animations to be choppy when you’re configuring the live wallpapers. Not really an experience-breaking bug, but it’s still always nice to have smooth animations.
The last notable issue (Issue #396541565), is the most annoying out of the bunch. This one caused phones to randomly restart. It’s obvious why this one can be problematic. No one likes to have their experience interrupted by a sudden restart.
Along with those changes, Android 16 beta 2.1 brings the usual slew of stability, connectivity, and performance improvements. So, it’s nothing to write home about, but it will bring a noticeable improvement to your experience.
Since the update has already dropped, you should be able to install the update now. If you haven’t been prompted to install it, go to your settings, head down to the Software section and look for the Update button. On the resulting page, tap on the blue button at the bottom to do a search for the update. If it’s available, tap the Install button and let the phone do its thing.
If you’re interested in signing up for the beta, you can go to the official Android Beta website. Just read the warnings before signing up.
