Summary

  • Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 may be thinner thanks to a new titanium hinge.
  • Galaxy Z Fold 7 may measure only 4.54mm unfolded, potentially becoming one of the thinnest foldables.
  • Only the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will benefit from the titanium material upgrade, with the Z Flip 7 maintaining a similar thickness.

It’s no secret that Samsung is working on new foldable devices. Leaks about the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 have been surfacing frequently, with rumors suggesting Samsung could even fast-track the launch to early July 2025.

However, there hasn’t been much excitement around the devices yet — largely because Samsung’s recent foldables have lagged behind the competition in hardware, especially when it comes to thickness. It seems Samsung is addressing that this year by using a new titanium hinge, and now a new leak has revealed just how thin the new foldables might be.

According to a report by Sammobile, citing CAD renders of the devices, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will measure just 4.54mm thick when unfolded and only 9mm when folded. That would be a significant improvement over the Galaxy Z Fold 6, which is over 12mm thick when folded.

In fact, this change could make the Galaxy Fold 7 one of the thinnest foldables ever, possibly even rivaling the Oppo Find N5, and would make it the thinnest foldable phone officially available in the US, beating the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, which is about 10.5mm thick.

Better late than never, Samsung

The report also mentions that the Galaxy Z Flip 7 will be 6.94mm thick when unfolded, which is the same as the current Galaxy Z Flip 6. It appears that only the more premium Fold model will benefit from the titanium material upgrade for reduced thickness. However, the report also mentions that the Z Flip 7 will include a larger 4,300 mAh battery, up from 4,000 mAh, which could be why Samsung is maintaining the same thickness this year.

On the whole, Samsung seems to be gearing up for a major summer launch. Alongside the Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7, rumors point to the debut of a trifold smartphone — possibly similar to Huawei’s Mate XT — as well as a new affordable Galaxy Z Flip model.
