Tariffs Threaten 30-40% Price Hike On Samsung Galaxy Phones, Report Claims

Upcoming smartphone tariffs first aimed at Apple, and since confirmed to apply to other brands, will apparently result in a huge 30-40% price hike on Samsung Galaxy smartphones.

President Trump announced last week that Apple would be subject to a 25% tariff on iPhones built abroad and sold in the United States. Later on, the sitting President clarified that Samsung and “anybody” selling phones in the US would be subject to the same tariff. While the “sometime towards the end of June” deadline is quickly approaching, a new report claims to estimate the impact on price for devices hit with this tariff.

Korean outlet FNNews (via @Jukanlosreve) cites projections that Samsung Galaxy devices could see a price hike of around 30-40% due to these new tariffs. An “emergency has been declared,” the report says (translated).

The impact of high tariffs is leading to increased smartphone prices for consumers, and the industry predicts that the price of Samsung Galaxy will increase by 30-40% if it is hit with a 25% tariff bomb.

If the tariffs do kick in, Samsung would have no choice but to comply, as the company has no way to produce its devices in the US as it stands today. Right now, its production is primarily out of Vietnam and other regions.

The report rightly notes that this comes right as the new Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 are around the corner, with North America being the single largest market for premium smartphones. If the US were to implement these tariffs, it would make Samsung’s already-expensive foldables all the more pricey. For example, it could push the Galaxy Z Fold 7 to $2,500 from its predecessor’s price, and that’s assuming the lower 30% claim mentioned in the report.

But, that’s all assuming these tariffs actually kick in. Previous tariffs were paused or lessened, so it’s very possible, arguably likely, that the same could happen this time around.
