Survey Says Gemini Live Is Possibly Coming To Google TV

Google TV is heavily leaning towards offering a more catered experience. This was evident at CES 2025, where the company showed off new features that bring the OS to life a little more. In a recent survey hosted by the company, Google TV detailed the possible addition of Gemini Live, giving a little insight into what can be expected.

Google TV is trying to become an operating system that does more than just “operate.” With Gemini integration, Google is looking to bring more value to the TV, as it’s generally the centerpiece in a home. During CES 2025, Gemini and Ambient Screensavers were showcased in new features for TVs with Google TV. That includes a new ambient mode with widgets for everything from weather to camera feeds. It also means a new “on-screen hub” comes into play when users walk into view of the TV, thanks to proximity sensors.

It looks like Google is toying with the idea of bringing Gemini Live to displays. During a survey conducted by the company via the Google TV Adisors program, Google asked users what sort of scenarios they would like to see throughout Gemini Live, Ambient Screensavers, and News Briefs (via Android Police). Ambient Screensavers and News Briefs aren’t new, per se, but they are a part of the larger rollout Google hopes to bring to the table.

The company noted that it’s trying to “figure out the clearest way to describe some exciting new features.” The dynamic nature of Gemini and these features means it can be presented in a few different ways. Below are some examples of messages that Google gives…

Ambient Screensaver with News Briefs

Option 1

Your Google TV’s upgraded Ambient Screensaver does more than display your favorite art and photos. It can now also show helpful information like time, weather, and news headlines, making it easier for you and your family to get the info you need for your day.

Option 2

Your Google TV’s upgraded Ambient Screensaver does more than display your favorite art and photos. Now, when you get closer, it switches to an overview of helpful information like time, weather, and news headlines, making it easier for you and your family to get the info you need for your day.

Option 3

Your Google TV’s upgraded Ambient Screensaver does more than display your favorite art and photos. Now, when you’re near your TV, it shows an overview of helpful information like time, weather, and news headlines, making it easier for you and your family to get the info you need for your day.

Gemini Live through Google TV

Option 1

Watching something and have a quick question? Gemini Live on Google TV lets you have a natural, free-flowing conversation with Gemini without exiting your movie or show, so you can get the answers you need right when you need them.

Option 2

With Gemini Live on Google TV, you can do more with your television:

  • Talk back and forth with Gemini about the movie or show you’re watching.
  • Brainstorm ideas out loud, from finding recipes to planning your next movie-themed party.
  • Explore new topics by having a conversation with Gemini on whatever you want to learn about.
  • Practice for interviews, presentations and other important moments in a more natural and conversational way.

Option 3

With Gemini Live on Google TV, you can do more with your television:

  • Have a natural, free-flowing conversation with Gemini, and even interrupt when you want to add more details or change the topic.
  • Brainstorm ideas out loud, from finding recipes to planning your next movie-themed party.
  • Explore new topics by having a conversation with Gemini on whatever you want to learn about.
  • Practice for interviews, presentations or other important moments with feedback from Gemini.

With the added functionality of far-field microphones, these options become a reality. It looks like Google is trying to hone in on what messaging Google TV presents so that users can jump in with as little questions as possible.

No matter how it’s presented, the survey gives us a good idea of what’s to come with Gemini Live. While Gemini was showcased at CES, the Live version that we get on Pixel devices will also seemingly come to Google TV. This comes in the form of natural conversations without the hard back-and-forth that comes with asking Gemini questions.

That addition would be exciting, especially with the inclusion of mics capable of picking up speech without the aid of a remote, as is the norm right now with Google TV. Google makes no mention in the survey when users will see this addition, but the existence of it means it could come with the other features relatively soon.
