Sony Cameras Can Now Send Photos Directly To Google Drive

If you’re a photographer who shoots with a Sony camera, Sony has just made life significantly easier for you. The company is introducing a way for photographers to send photos from their cameras directly to Adobe Lightroom and Google Drive. You can do this using the newly updated Sony Creators’ app.

Transfer Photos Without a Computer

Traditionally, if you wanted to transfer photos taken on a camera to a computer, you have a couple of options. One of which is connecting your camera directly to your computer and accessing the files. The second way is to remove the memory card from the camera. You will need to plug it into an SD card reader connected to your computer before you transfer the photos.

Many modern-day cameras come with wireless connectivity. This presents a third option: to transfer photos wirelessly from their cameras to an accompanying app. Regardless of the transfer method, all your photos are still on your computer’s hard drive. Users then need to transfer those photos to the cloud if they want to enable collaboration or access on other computers.

By integrating with Adobe Lightroom and Google Drive, the entire process can be streamlined. Photographers will be able to send their photos straight from their cameras to the cloud through the Sony Creators’ app. This allows them to do away with the need to bring along a laptop with them into the field.

Photographers who work in the field, such as weddings and sporting events, might be able to appreciate this improvement in their workflow. If photographers had to stop between shoots and transfer photos to their laptops and then to the cloud, it would slow them down considerably.

Photographers can also instantly back up their images to Google Drive or import them directly into Lightroom for immediate editing. This method saves users a lot of time and can help back up their photos in the process. This approach also protects against memory card corruption or accidental photo deletion from the camera.

Not all cameras are supported

If you hope to take advantage of this new feature, note that not all cameras are supported. If you want to make use of the Google Drive integration, it currently only works with the FX3, FX30, α1 II, α1, α9 III, α7R V, α7S III, α7 IV, α7CR, α7C II, α6700, ZV-E1, ZV-E10 II, ZV-1 II, ZV-1F, and ILX-LR1. You’ll have to use Sony’s previous Edge app if you have an older camera.

The updated Sony Creators’ App is available for download via the Play Store for Android users or Apple’s App Store for iOS users.
