Samsung is still working to bring its first Android XR headset, “Project Moohan,” to market, and new information reveals that the company will also have some first-party controllers to go with it.
Like Apple Vision Pro, Samsung’s “Project Moohan” uses its outward-facing cameras for controlling the UI by watching for gestures from your hands. In our hands-on experience last year, our Abner Li explained:
You bring your thumb and forefinger together – referred to as a “pinch” – to tap. There’s a “ray” that extends from your hand for pointing, as well as pinch-to-zoom. These Android XR gestures are pretty straightforward and work well.
Unlike Apple, though, Samsung appears to be allowing for physical controllers to work with its Android XR headset. Samsung previously confirmed this in December 2024, and now some apparent first-party gear has appeared.
SamMobile reports that it has “found references” to first-party motion controllers with the model number ET-OI610. These controllers are thought to not be bundled in with the headset itself, but rather be an option after the initial purchase for things such as gaming. The report doesn’t reveal any further details about how the controllers will work or what they look like.
Samsung is expected to launch its Android XR headset later this year.
