These are turbulent times for Samsung in some of its key divisions. Recently, Samsung MX (also known as Samsung Mobile) launched the Galaxy S25 series with a good reception among the public. However, a recent report suggested that Samsung could replace the current chief of its mobile division. That said, the company itself has denied the report because, although there were internal changes, the mobile division still has the same head.
Samsung promoted Choi Won-joon to president of the MX Development division
The original report came from Business Korea, which said that Choi Won-joon had been promoted to president of the Samsung MX Development division. The “tradition” at Samsung is that whoever holds that position will soon replace the mobile division chief. Currently, the legendary TM Roh presides over the entire Samsung MX/Samsung Mobile department.
The decision seemed to come at a time when it didn’t make much sense. It’s true that fans have complained about Samsung’s conservatism regarding improvements to the Galaxy S flagships. However, as previously said, the Galaxy S25 series is proving to be a sales success. So, at least financially, TM Roh’s management is bringing positive results for the company.
Choi Won-joon won’t replace TM Roh as Samsung’s mobile division chief
Well, it seems that it was all a mix-up, as Samsung does not intend to replace the chief mobile division. Choi Won-joon did receive a promotion to president of Samsung MX Development division. However, it doesn’t seem like he’s going to unseat TM Roh—at least in the short term. Samsung sent out statements to media outlets to deny the initial reports. Choi Won-joon’s promotion was actually a reward for the commercial performance of the Galaxy S25 lineup. The executive reportedly played a major role in the decisions regarding these devices.
It’s noteworthy that some fans were happy with the possible change of head at Samsung MX. After all, they have been waiting for impressive improvements to the Galaxy flagships for years. However, the company has been betting on optimization and refinement, tweeting a few things here and there. A new face might have spurred a change.
It seems that fans will have to settle for the company’s current path for a while longer. Especially after seeing the positive financial results that the Galaxy S25 lineup is bringing.
