Samsung isn’t done with the Galaxy S25 series just yet. In January, the company launched the vanilla, Plus, and Ultra variants in the flagship device family. However, we also saw an official teaser of the Galaxy S25 Edge, a model designed around a simple idea: a premium, ultra-thin smartphone. The handset is still a few months away, though. Now, a leak has revealed the alleged launch date of the Galaxy S25 Edge.
Samsung to launch Galaxy S25 Edge on April 16, leak claims
According to previous reports, Samsung will launch the slimmest model in the Galaxy S25 lineup in April. The latest leak backs up those claims but includes a specific date: April 16. The report from the Korean outlet Sedaily even claims that the Galaxy S25 Edge will be available in stores in May, a few weeks after the announcement.
That said, it seems that Samsung will take a cautious approach initially with this device. The source says that Samsung only plans to produce a first batch of 40,000 units. For reference, Samsung is projecting to produce around 37 million units of the Galaxy S25 lineup. So, if the numbers are real, the Galaxy S25 Edge would only represent just over 0.1% of the series’ volume.
The firm seems to want to test the waters with limited production to gauge public response. Previous leaks even said that the device will have limited regional availability. However, the company could increase the production levels of the device according to public interest. Samsung already had to increase production of Galaxy Ring units last year due to high demand.
Could be more expensive than the vanilla Galaxy S25
Another interesting detail is that the Galaxy S25 Edge could be more expensive than the vanilla Galaxy S25 but more affordable than the Ultra model. The “Edge” Galaxy S flagship may be the firm’s response to the alleged iPhone 17 Air. Apple could launch this device as a replacement for the iPhone 17 Plus sometime in 2025. However, Samsung’s approach to an ultra-thin flagship is a bit different. While the company will have to make compromises, it wants them to be fewer than those on Apple’s product.
A recently leaked hands-on video showed just how thin the phone could be. According to the video, the Galaxy S25 Edge will be as thin as a Galaxy Z Fold 6 when unfolded. Achieving this milestone required sacrificing a camera sensor and battery capacity. However, Geekbench showed that it will be just as powerful as its S25 siblings. The Galaxy S25 Edge is expected to be equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip and 12GB of RAM.
Lastly, the Galaxy S25 Edge could be available in three colors: light blue, black, and silver.
