Samsung has already launched the Galaxy S25 series of flagship smartphones as this year’s big guns aimed at rival brands like Apple and more. Now, Samsung is all set to showcase its improvements in the OLED display panel technology at this year’s MWC (Mobile World Congress) event. At its MWC 2025 event, the company will display an OLED screen panel with a whopping peak brightness of 5,000 nits.
Samsung Display will announce improvements to its OLED screen panels at the upcoming event
Samsung has announced that it has developed a new ultra-high bright OLED panel based on the polarizer-less display technology. It’s worth adding that Samsung first commercialized this technology, also known as on-cell film (OCF). According to the company, the new tech not only increases outdoor visibility but also reduces power consumption. This paves the way for significant design flexibility across devices.
Furthermore, the brand announced that it is applying the OCF technology to a bar-type smartphone and a rollable laptop. The OCF OLED panel that Samsung will showcase at MWC will flaunt a maximum brightness of 5,000 nits. According to the company, achieving this occurs when the on-pixel ratio or OPR is at 10 percent.
“OCF technology meets the needs of L.E.A.D., which stands for ‘Low Power Consumption, Eco-friendliness, Augmented Brightness, and Designed to be Slim and Light,’” said Joohyung Lee, Head of Mobile Display Business at Samsung Display.
“By aligning with these cutting-edge requirements, we are excited to introduce the concept ‘L.E.A.D., The Next Wave of Display,’ at MWC25, showcasing a groundbreaking direction for next-generation displays that will captivate both consumers and clients”, he added further.
Samsung aims to maximize brightness while consuming less power with its next-gen OLED display panels
Thanks to this new tech, Samsung’s new OLED displays can deliver a peak brightness of more than 3,000 nits even in “everyday environments like watching movies”. Samsung said that this peak brightness surpasses that of the recently introduced premium smartphone OLEDs. It is approximately up to 1.5 times the brightness while maintaining the same power consumption.
Samsung said that its new display innovation allows the screen panel to maintain the same level of brightness using only approx. 63 percent of the power that most panels typically consume. We will have more details about the company’s new-generation display technology in a matter of days at its MWC event.
