Leaks around Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Watch and One UI updates have revealed a lot of changes, now including the revamped cover display on the Galaxy Z Flip 7.
It was originally thought that the Galaxy Z Flip 7 would have the same cover display design as its predecessor, but new information leaked earlier this year suggested the display would get much larger, akin to the Motorola Razr series. A leaked Samsung app is now effectively confirming this.
The folks at Android Authority tore down a leaked APK from Samsung’s One UI 8 firmware. The files show icon-like renders of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Flip 6, looking similar, while the Galaxy Z Flip 7 has a larger display that goes right up to the edges and surrounds the cameras as well.
Samsung held off on a larger, more useful cover display up until the Galaxy Z Flip 5, but was still falling behind the larger canvas available on the Motorola Razr series. It’s unclear if Samsung has plans to allow for more apps to run on this bigger cover display – apps are still limited to a select few, with Good Lock modules allowing for more apps to run – but there are plenty of improvements that could come from this change.
Galaxy Z Flip 7 is expected to launch in July.
