Report: Samsung Upgrading Foldable Hinges On Galaxy Z Fold 7 And ‘tri-Fold,’ Not Flip 7

According to a new report, Samsung is bringing hinge upgrades to its Galaxy Z Fold 7 and “tri-fold” device, but the Galaxy Z Flip 7 will sit out.

The Elec reports that Samsung is planning to use titanium to upgrade the hinge found in the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7, bringing strength upgrades to allow for the much thinner profile the company is aiming for with this device. For similar reasons, the “tri-fold” device (rumored to be called the Galaxy G Fold) will get the same hinge upgrade.

The report claims, though, that Samsung won’t be applying the same changes to the Galaxy Z Flip 7, as the flip phone isn’t getting any thinner. Motorola, notably, applied a new titanium hinge on the 2025 Razr series.

Previously, Samsung used a stainless steel hinge for all of its foldables. It first introduced titanium with last year’s Galaxy Z Fold SE, which the Fold 7 is rumored to be drawing on heavily for its various improvements.

Samsung is set to launch its new foldables in July, though the “tri-fold” is expected to come later.
