Report: Google’s Prototype Android XR Glasses To Be Released By Samsung In 2026

A new report reveals that the prototype Android XR glasses that Google recently showed off are slated to be released as a Samsung product as soon as next year, a bit later than other reports have hinted.

As far back as December 2024, Google has been showing off Android XR with the help of a pair of smart glasses that haven’t been detailed too in-depth thus far. The best public look to date was earlier this week at the TED2025 conference, where Google VP Shahram Izadi showed the glasses and some of their capabilities in a demo (which has yet to be released outside of a paywall).

Google, though, hasn’t publicly committed to launching this product. Rather, it’s Samsung that has been on track to release a pair of smart glasses with Android XR, as prior reporting and the company’s own teasers have hinted at.

The Korea Economic Daily reports that these products are one and the same, with the glasses that Google has been showing off being a prototype for a product that Samsung will release “next year.” Google and Samsung are “jointly working” on the smart glasses.

The report explains:

…the two tech firms are jointly working to develop new smart glasses, slated for release next year, people familiar with the matter said on Friday.

The two companies unveiled images of the smart glasses under development at the XR Unlock event held at Google Campus in New York last December.

Shahram Izadi, a Google vice president in charge of AR and XR, recently wore a prototype of the smart glasses and demonstrated some of its features at the TED2025 conference held in Vancouver, Canada.

Samsung is expected to launch Project Moohan, its Android XR headset that’s been shown off in person twice now, sometime later this year. A prior report suggested that Samsung could launch a pair of smart glasses by the end of the year as well, though it could have also been read that the company was only aiming to “unveil” the glasses before the year’s end.
