realme is starting to tease their Mobile World Congress announcement, over on Social Media. The vice president of realme, Chase Xu, has posted on X that the company will “unveil a game-changing photography innovation that will truly blow your mind”. Along with some comparison shots with a couple of other flagships, which appears to be portrait shots at 10x zoom.
In this comparison shot, realme includes “Flagship A” and “Flagship B”. It’s hard to tell which flagships these actually are, but we’d be willing to bet they are Apple and Samsung.
realme also posted a video showing off the “true DSLR-level smartphone camera”, well sort of. They did cover the actual cameras on the phone, but it looks very similar to the upcoming Xiaomi 15 Ultra. Saying that this is a “game changer for the mobile photography and I’m going to launch it very soon in MWC.” The video did definitely look very staged, but it is a good way to tease this announcement for MWC.
realme actually has a booth at MWC this year
Typically, the BBK brands (OPPO, OnePlus, realme, vivo, etc) all are at MWC, but they generally do not have a booth. However, realme does have a booth this year. So they are expecting to garner quite a bit of attention with this device that they are teasing. It’s unclear whether this will be a new phone that will be on sale or a proof of concept. As the company is also planning to do its global launch for the realme 14 Pro series at MWC. Which we got a preview of, in Copenhagen last December.
We’re seeing a lot of smartphone companies go really tough with camera upgrades, and comparing them to DSLR cameras. This is because, it’s really the only way to differentiate their phones versus others on the market. Since most phones have the same specs, and price, the only other way to differentiate is with software and camera.
