Playing Android Games On PC With Only A Keyboard Is Now Possible

If you don’t prefer playing Android games on your smartphone, you always have the option to enjoy them on your PC with a bunch of emulators available out there. One such example is Google Play Games on PC. All Android gaming apps available through Play Games on PC have been optimized for keyboard and mouse input, mimicking the PC gaming experience.
What if you don’t have a mouse and want to play Android games on a PC with only a keyboard? Fortunately, that’s not a thing to worry about now. The January 2025 update for Play Games on PC has added a new game control remapping feature. It allows you to play your favorite Android games on your PC with only a keyboard.
You can access the new tool by pressing the Shift + Tab key during gameplay to add invisible buttons that simulate taps and joysticks that move in the four cardinal directions when you press the keys. Controlling movement within the game using the first joystick defaults to WASD keys. In addition, the second joystick defaults to the arrow keys.
Now, you can remap those controls and add an extra joystick to any four keys while playing Android games on your PC. Moving on, you can move, resize, and label all the tap buttons and joystick to ensure a customized gaming experience. Do note that your control mappings save between sessions. You can transfer them to another PC and share them with your gaming buddy using the import/export tool.
The remapping tool is only available for supported games
Google says that the new tool is only available for supported games but doesn’t mention their names. However, it’s safe to say that Android games available via Play Games on PC that require using a mouse could work with this tool. Not to forget, a part of the changelog also mentions that future updates will also add more controls.
The latest update also allows changing the refresh rate (FPS) of different Android games available via Play Games on PC. You can do that by heading to visual settings from the menu that appears when pressing the Shift + Tab key. Moreover, it’s unclear in which games this feature works for now.
