One of the most requested features by Android users is a way to know the current health of their phones’ battery. Even today, you need third-party apps to get an approximation of the current capacity of your device’s cell. Many thought that the company would integrate it a few years ago, but in the end it did not. Now, the latest Android 16 beta shows that Google is still working on the “Battery health” page for Pixel phones.
The Battery health settings page was first detected as part of Android 13 QPR1 beta in October 2022. This led to the belief that the option would arrive as part of the next stable Feature Drop Update or, at the latest, in Android 14. However, for unknown reasons, this never happened. Currently, Google is working on Android 16, but the company has not forgotten about it.
Google continues to work on the Battery health feature for Pixel phones, confirms Android 16 beta
As spotted by 9to5Google in Android 16 Beta 2, the latest Settings Services app version (1.1.0.717462792) includes updated strings for the Battery Health page. “View battery health status and tips to extend your battery,” reads the description. The tips are basically a series of simple guides on how to enable some useful features to prolong the battery life of your device or advice you can follow in your day-to-day. The list includes things like turning on the Adaptive Battery option, avoiding very low/very high temperatures, or enabling charge optimization, among others.
The Battery health page is available from Settings > Battery > Battery health. However, the option must be “forced” enabled, as it’s not present by default. The most anticipated feature is still there: being able to see the current capacity of your battery. “Estimated percentage of charge the battery can currently hold compared to a new standard battery,” reads another description.
It appears that a “calibration” option will be available to “improve battery measurements.” This option will take a few days to make new measurements and update your current battery health.
As with previous times, there is no guarantee that Google will include the “Battery health” page in Android 16. However, let’s hope the company doesn’t take too long to bring this long-awaited feature. It would be great if Google finally rolled it out in the next big Android update.
