One UI 7 Lets You Use Galaxy AI Writing Tools Without Samsung’s Awful Keyboard

Galaxy AI is one of Samsung’s biggest draws on its flagship phones, and writing assist is a huge part of that. While most of Samsung’s Galaxy AI features are locked into its own apps, that’s no longer the case for Writing Assist, which is now available outside of Samsung Keyboard

The default keyboard that appears when you first set up your Galaxy device is not great. In comparison to other options, such as Google’s own keyboard, it leaves a lot to be desired. That includes inconsistencies with how it operates in normal usage, abysmal voice-to-text, and poor autocorrect, even in the wake of AI overhauls. It’s just not a great experience.

That’s part of the reason a lot of Galaxy AI can seem a little underwhelming, but Samsung is making changes in this regard.

In One UI 7, Samsung has updated Writing Assist to make some of its most useful Galaxy AI features available outside of Samsung Keyboard. All that’s needed is a simple highlight and tap.

Galaxy AI is keyboard-agnostic

When using Gboard or any other keyboard, One UI 7 now recognizes that you are in a social or chat app. From there, highlighting text will result in the Galaxy AI logo appearing next to other familiar options. When that logo is tapped, all of the familiar One UI 7 Galaxy AI features appear in the space the keyboard occupies, just like through Samsung’s default option. You can also just long-press in an empty text field and tap the Galaxy AI icon to access Writing Assist.

This feature seems to be One UI 7-wide and will likely appear on the previous Galaxy S24 models when the software version rolls out widely — it’s already present in the latest One UI 7 beta. That goes for even older Galaxy devices that will run One UI 7, so long as the processor inside can handle AI to the extent needed. The feature set will likely be on a device-by-device basis as you move farther from the Galaxy S25 series.

In the offered suite, the summarize and bullet point features require a text length of around 200 characters, so they aren’t always applicable. Spelling, style, and composer are. That gives you access to all of Samsung’s AI writing tools even if you’re not using Samsung Keyboard.

The Galaxy S25 runs the latest version One UI 7 out of the box, which also means it will be first in line for upcoming features that Samsung decides to release. The S25 series is still in pre-order with some pretty good deals available.
