Summary: NVIDIA has released a new hotfix update for the SHIELD TV. The latest update fixes all the problems that arrived with February’s Experience 9.2 major software upgrade. It comes with several fixes, including Dolby Vision Stutter and audio playback issues.
NVIDIA has no great track record of providing regular software updates for the SHIELD TV media streaming device. However, NVIDIA surprised everyone by releasing a hotfix update for the SHIELD TV in October last year, which arrived a little over a year after the previous update. Also, the brand provided a major new SHIELD TV Experience 9.2 update with loads of new enhancements back in February.
Now, the tech giant has released a new hotfix update for the SHIELD TV, which resolves issues from the previous Experience 9.2 update. It is an opt-in non-reversible software update, which comes with a couple of catches, so read on to know more.
The new update fixes multiple issues, like Dolby Vision stutter and audio playback bugs
According to the official changelog, the first Experience 9.2+ hotfix update carries the firmware build number “33.2.0.322”. It comes with fixes for multiple problems, like video stuttering during Dolby Vision playback. If you were facing any issues with Plex when using AAC 5.1 audio, then this update fixes them.
Furthermore, the NVIDIA SHIELD TV’s new hotfix update fixes Match Content Audio Resolution for USB DAC. It adds back the HQS/Maxrate option while delivering audio via USB. Besides, there’s a USB TV Tuner fix with the Live Channel application.
The opt-in update comes with a couple of catches
It’s worth mentioning that NVIDIA SHIELD TV’s new update comes with a couple of catches. First of all, there’s no way to roll back from the update. If you sign up to get the update, you will receive all updates to it until the next public release, whenever that rolls out. Also, you can’t leave the hotfix process once it starts.
Additionally, Google has not certified the hotfix update. So, you won’t be able to install or update applications like Disney+ from the Play Store. The company also mentioned that HD Homerun DRM channels will not work after updating.
That said, NVIDIA isn’t rolling out the new hotfix update to all SHIELD TV users just yet. NVIDIA is inviting users of the device to manually sign up through a Google form to get the hotfix update. However, the company states that it will eventually release these fixes to all users in the stable build, although it hasn’t provided a specific release date yet.
