The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 GPUs were officially released on January 30, with the availability of both GPU models disappearing in a matter of minutes after listings went live. If you’re wondering about where to buy either of these GPUs, you can find them at several retailers, at least, when they happen to be in stock. If you’re finding it hard to buy the GPU itself, you can always opt for buying a prebuilt or custom-built PC with the card already inside.
As for the GPUs on their own, getting one won’t be easy. With stock selling out almost immediately, customers have been left with no options. Some retailers, like Newegg, have done at least one stock refresh, but those were gone within minutes as well. Now, a UK retailer is estimating that continued availability of the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 could be months away.
Further NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 availability might be a few months away
It’s only been a few days since NVIDIA’s latest GPUs were launched, and if you were hoping for a stock refresh soon, you might be waiting longer than you’re hoping for. One UK retailer named Overclockers suspects that it could be up to 16 weeks before there are more cards available for people to buy. This is obviously not something that’s a guarantee. It’s entirely possible that stock could come back a lot sooner.
That being said, buyers should temper their expectations. Because it could be several weeks before there’s another chance to buy one. according to Overclockers (via Digital Trends), the RTX 5090 could take anywhere from 3 to 16 weeks to come back in stock. The RTX 5080 is a little more forgiving based on Overclocker’s estimates. Noting that it might be 2 to 6 weeks for that GPU in particular.
The other thing to keep in mind is that Overclockers is only one retailer. It may also be tossing out a wide range of dates so as not to overpromise and underdeliver.
Small amounts of stock may pop up more frequently
If you’re still hunting down a new GPU, don’t give up based on this estimate. It seems a little unlikely that it would be a full 16 weeks before more stock arrives. NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang did hint at a possible GPU shortage a few months ago. However, there’s still a chance that small amounts of stock could pop up. It’s also worth keeping in mind that this is a UK retailer.
Stock from US retailers and other regions may be different. It could depend on the size of the retailer. There are lots of factors to consider. While it’s tough to nail down exactly how long it’ll be, one thing is certain. There don’t appear to be any available at this moment. NVIDIA is also going to be launching the RTX 5070 and the RTX 5070 Ti this month. So you can try your hand at getting one of those.
