Nothing is, once again, turning over the design work to the community for its Phone (3a). This is the second annual “Community Edition” design contest, in which the winner’s design will be used on the next limited edition of the Nothing Phone (3a).
Sometime after the Nothing Phone (2a) launched, the company decided to host a community design contest. The winners received exposure in return for designing the $350 phone. In the end, a glow-in-the-dark variant emerged from the furnace, though a ton of submissions were received.
Nothing has officially kicked off the second Community Edition contest. The winners will get a bit of prize money and the chance to work with the Nothing team over a period of 6 months to design and flesh out their designs. Nothing notes that the winners will be selected via a process that showcases the design process, with previous winners including work like artboards and process timelines.
Stage 1 — Submissions
There are four components to the Phone (3a) Community Edition Project – choose the brief that best suits your skills. Read the requirements carefully and craft your submission.
Stage 2 — Voting and Judging
When submissions close, voting begins – our community can show support for their favourite entries, allowing our juries to see what’s popular.
Stage 3 — Winners Selected
Our internal juries will select their favourite submission from each brief and 4 winners will be publicly announced!
Stage 4 — Co-creation
Over a period of 6 months, winners will collaborate with eachother and our teams at Nothing. You’ll take part in workshops, design reviews and more to bring your idea to life.
Stage 5 — Launch
Phone (3a) Community Edition will be revealed to the world and available for purchase at the end of the 2025. All four winners will attend a launch event to celebrate their hard work!
Nothing plans to invite the winners to a launch event for the Nothing Phone (3a) Community Edition after the design process is complete. Design submissions are not only limited to the phone itself, either. Accessories, software elements, and marketing materials are up for submission as well.
Nothing’s Community Edition contest launches today and will run until April 23 and submissions can be entered via the company’s website. According to the official forum, the winner will receive £1000.
