Google is going all in with Gemini at this year’s I/O event. We have seen a handful of Gemini-related announcements today. As far as Google TV is concerned, there’s just one. Gemini is coming to Google TV to recommend content from across your Google TV apps. While the company is broadly focusing on user experience with Gemini integration, it also wants to prompt users to rate and review Google TV apps.
Google TV will soon prompt you to rate and review apps
In today’s Android Developer Blog, Google mentions that it’s expanding the “In-App Ratings and Reviews API to TV.” Per the blog post, this move will allow developers to prompt users for ratings and reviews directly from Google TV. As a result, users can also see “rating averages, browse reviews, and leave their own reviews” directly on the app’s store listing on Google TV.
Google has also detailed ways for users to interact with in-app ratings and reviews on their TVs when prompted. First, they can select ratings using the remote’s control D-pad. They can also provide optional written reviews with the help of Gboard’s on-screen voice input. Typing from the phone is also listed as an alternative. Users can also send mobile notifications to themselves to complete the TV app review from their phone.
Well, there are other ways to post your ratings and reviews for Google TV apps. By choosing the “Rate on another device” option, users can also leave ratings and reviews by selecting the notification chip on their smartphone. Google says that it has seen a considerable jump in the number of apps rated on TV with these features. But with the ratings and reviews prompt, it wants to take things to the next level.
Google expects developers to keep a few things in mind
Google advises developers to carefully consider the best time to request a review prompt. Developers can identify optimal moments within the app to request feedback. Google further suggests prompting users for ratings and reviews only when the UI is idle. This way, Google is ensuring that users are left with no interruptions when watching their favorite content. More recently, the company also announced that it is rolling out a simpler Google TV setup process, starting with select Hisense models.
