Mobile World Congress is kicking off this week, and Lenovo has plenty to show, including a concept laptop called the ThinkBook Flip AI PC. Images of the laptop had leaked in February, but at the time, it wasn’t quite clear if the laptop was going to be a real product or not. Lenovo has now confirmed as part of its Mobile World Congress announcements, that this is a concept device. That means it likely won’t become a production model that consumers can buy, but that doesn’t make it any less exciting.
The Lenovo ThinkBook Flip AI PC is a multitasker’s dream, featuring a large 18.1-inch display when completely unfolded. It’s geared toward working professionals and anyone who might have need for the versatility and productivity that this would provide. According to Lenovo, it redefines how working professionals can interact with AI-enhanced workflows, calling it the “new flexible star of adaptive business computing.”
The Lenovo ThinBook Flip AI PC has five modes
What makes this laptop so unique is its flexible display. It starts as a 13-inch laptop, but it can also be extended. All the way up to 18.1 inches for extra screen space, which you can see in the image above. There’s the clamshell mode, which is your typical laptop experience. There’s also the vertical mode. This is where the screen unfolds all the way, and it can be used for things like reviewing documents. Additionally, there’s a share mode for collaborating with others using a dual-display format, as well as a tablet mode and a read mode.
The read mode in particular is interesting, as Lenovo says it provides “distraction-free” reading. All of these modes give the laptop some advantages in the multitasking department. Users have the ability to flip from doing one thing to another in a way that traditional laptops can’t.
Powered by Intel’s Core Ultra 7
The laptop may be just a concept, but it has some very real components inside that make it a great device for multitasking. For starters, it’s powered by Intel’s Core Ultra 7 CPU, which comes with a neural processing unit. The NPU helps with several AI-powered features and also makes the laptop more power-efficient. That will extend the laptop’s battery life so professionals can more easily use the laptop for longer without needing to plug it in.
It also has 32GB of LPDDR5X RAM, and what Lenovo calls the Smart ForcePad. The Smart ForcePad has an integrated 3-layer illuminated dashboard. Lenovo says this adds media controls and numeric keys to it. So you could essentially pause and play music with just the ForcePad. Additionally, it has integrated Thunderbolt 4 ports. These can be used for plugging in accessories, as well as power delivery and display docking. Although this is just a concept, it’s certainly one of Lenovo’s most interesting products at the show.
