Jackbox Games App Is Coming To Smart TVs For Free In Spring 2025

Jackbox Party Pack games are soon to expand to a new means of access, as a new “Jackbox Games” app will be coming to smart TVs and other platforms with the help of cloud gaming.

The Jackbox Party Pack is full of hilarious and fun games, but getting them up on the TV isn’t always the easiest thing. Many people own these games on Steam, which means plugging a PC into your TV or using a mirroring option. Others rely on consoles to get the job done. Jackbox does sell some Party Pack releases for native installation on Android TV OS, but that also comes with its own set of limitations.

Finally, Jackbox Games is looking to build a solution, as the company has today announced its intentions to release a new Jackbox Games app for both smart TVs and “other platforms.”

As revealed in a blog post, this new app, which is backed by the same tech used for cloud gaming, will deliver various Jackbox Games for free. Jackbox says the “initial” service will be ad-supported with a small collection of games, while there are plans for a subscription with the entire catalog of games.

That is why we are announcing a new Jackbox app that will allow you to play Jackbox Games on your smart TV and other platforms.

How can we pull off such a technical miracle? The same way anyone does anything these days: The Cloud! Partnering with AWS GameLift Streams allows us to quickly launch and stream games to all sorts of devices from smart TVs to web applications to… I don’t know… a watch, probably. But let’s not. Gathering around your watch for a game of Fibbage is super-dumb.

The initial version of this service will offer a small collection of ad-supported games for free, but as the service matures, we intend to also offer our entire catalog of games for a subscription fee. We’re hoping to bring a beta version of this service to one or two smart TV platforms in the Spring of 2025, with more platforms and features to follow if y’all like it.

Personally, Google Stadia was my favorite way to play Jackbox titles. The ease of access to Stadia along with the various of devices I could access Jackbox from made it a breeze to set up on a TV, tablet, computer, of whatever else I had access to. Amazon Luna works well in that regard as well, besides the lack of support for many smart TV platforms.

There are still a lot of questions regarding this new Jackbox Games app for smart TVs (including whether or not it will support Google Cast), but it sounds pretty exciting.

The app will be released in beta for “one or two smart TV platforms” in Spring 2025.
