One of the ways to get your Instagram videos noticed is to edit them in a fun and entertaining way. Obviously, not all of us are professional video editors, which is why Meta is giving Instagram users a bit of help in the form of an AI-powered video editing tool powered by the company’s Movie Gen model.
Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, announced these plans in a video posted to his Instagram page. Mosseri explained that the Meta Movie Gen model powers this Instagram video editing tool, enabling users to edit and modify their videos in any way they choose by harnessing AI technology. This will make it a lot easier for newbies who aren’t familiar with the video editing process.
For example, users can make adjustments using simple text prompts. Mosseri’s video actually demonstrates some of the editor’s capabilities, where his background and look shifted and transformed seamlessly.
The video appears noticeably smoother and more polished compared to some other AI videos posted in the past. It remains unclear whether Instagram users will achieve a similar effect. Meta did not say when the tool will be available, but Mosseri’s video indicates that Instagram plans on releasing it next year, so you’ll have to wait a bit before you try it out.
Meta’s AI push
Meta, like other tech companies such as Google, has been aggressively pushing out new AI features across its platforms. Movie Gen is one of those AI models, which was originally announced back in October.
The company also rolled out other AI models, like Meta AI, to its social media platforms like Facebook. Meta AI is a different model from Movie Gen. It acts like a digital assistant where users can ask it questions, similar to OpenAI’s ChatGPT. It also has built-in image editing capabilities.
Meta has also extended its AI to some of its business offerings. This allows businesses to quickly and easily set up an AI assistant. This AI can chat with customers and answer any queries they might have about products or services.
It’s not surprising that Meta is so aggressive with its efforts. The AI space is stiff with competition and any delays would essentially cede market share to another company. Meta is facing competition from the likes of OpenAI and its Sora model. There is also Adobe’s Firefly Video model, so the company is definitely not wasting any time.
