This week at Mobile World Congress, we’re going to see a bunch of Concepts being shown off. And Lenovo is no exception. They have a ton of concept devices that they are showing off here in Barcelona, but there’s one that caught my eye, and I think needs to be a real product. That is the Lenovo Yoga Solar PC Concept.
Essentially, what Lenovo has done here, is they have added a solar panel to the lid of a laptop. On the surface, that might seem like a gimmick. How much power can you really get from a solar panel on a laptop, especially when you’re in an office environment? But surprisingly, quite a bit.
Lenovo says that you can get about an hour of video playback from 20 minutes of light on the solar panel. It can also charge from ambient lighting in the room, as well as sunlight coming in from a window. This laptop is sporting 14-inch OLED display, Intel Core Ultra processors with Integrated Intel Graphics, up to 32GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage. So this laptop is no slouch. And despite having a full solar panel integrated into the body, it still only weighs about 2.29lbs. That’s over a pound lighter than the MacBook Pro 14, and about half a pound lighter than the MacBook Air 13.
This solar panel could allow you to go truly cord-free
Imagine you’re sitting in an office or even at a coffee shop, working all day. Now, imagine you never needing to worry about your laptop dying. That’s what the Yoga Solar PC Concept could do for you. There’s been times where I’ve been working on the road, and needed to adjust my laptop’s settings so that the battery would last longer. With this solar panel, I wouldn’t need to that.
While this did start out sounding like a gimmick, I think this is something that Lenovo really does need to bring to market. Though, I’m very certain that it would not be cheap.
