HMD has debuted its entirely new “Family division” devices with “human-first design and real inputs from parents” ahead of MWC 2025. The first phone to launch under the new family umbrella is the HMD Fusion X1, which the company has developed in collaboration with Xplora. In addition, HMD and FC Barcelona have announced a partnership resulting in two new devices, including the HMD Barça 3210 and Barça Fusion. Furthermore, the company has introduced a couple of music-centric feature phones and a clamshell offering.

HMD designed the Fusion X1 to appeal to teenagers while incorporating robust parental controls

Part of HMD’s new “Family division” devices range, the Fusion X1’s development follows HMD’s July 2024 announcement of “The Better Phone Project”. As per the brand, the device lays the foundation for “teen’s healthy digital habits with parental controls and no social media or internet unless enabled by the teen’s guardian”.

HMD has designed the Fusion X1 to appeal to teenagers. The phone also incorporates robust parental controls through a subscription to Xplora, which starts at €4.99 per month. It integrates OS-level parental controls, which allows for customized app and internet access limitations. Parents can easily choose to block social media and internet browsing entirely or implement specific limitations on the device.

Xplora’s subscription on the HMD’s “Family division” Fusion X1 phone also offers continuous location tracking at 20-second intervals with safe zone settings, emergency call features, low battery alerts, and remote device access for parents. There’s also a School Mode on the device, allowing parents to restrict the use of specific apps during school hours.

Apart from the parental control functionalities, the Fusion X1 packs some interesting features, including a 108MP AI-infused camera, a 5,000mAh battery, enhanced security, and IP54 splash resistance. Furthermore, similar to the original Fusion, HMD has included its Fusion modular design on the Fusion X1. It allows users to attach modular accessories, which provide additional functionalities, like gaming, a built-in ring light, and enhanced battery life.

The HMD Fusion X1 will be available to buy in major regions in May for £229, which roughly translates to $290.

HMD Barça 3210 is a feature phone, while the Barça Fusion is a Collector’s Edition smartphone

The partnership with FC Barcelona introduces the HMD Barça 3210, a feature phone designed to minimize distractions during sporting events. It is available in the Club colors of Blau and Grana and comes pre-loaded with FC Barcelona-themed wallpapers and a customized user interface. In addition, it flaunts a version of the iconic “Snake” game featuring FC Barcelona elements played on a digital pitch.

HMD is touting the Barça Fusion as a Collector’s Edition smartphone that includes a “Smart Outfit”. The protective case features the engraved signatures of 11 FC Barcelona players, which glow under UV light. The handset also comes loaded with FC Barcelona-themed visual elements, audio greetings, and alarm sounds featuring famous players like Gavi, De Jong, and Lewandowski. There’s also the official FC Barcelona app on the device. It has a modular design, allowing you to attach different “Smart Outfits” to provide additional functionalities.

The price of the HMD Barça 3210 is £79 (around $99), while the Barça Fusion costs £229 (approx. $290). HMD will start selling the new phones in major markets in April.

New feature phones and Amped Buds also announced

Coming to the other HMD announcements at MWC 2025, the brand has introduced the HMD 130 and 150 Music feature phones. According to the brand, it has designed these to provide a simplified mobile experience and encourage users to reduce digital distractions. Featuring the traditional “candy-bar” form factor, these phones offer a substantial speaker, extended battery life, and a robust physical build.

HMD has also showcased the 2660 Flip phone alongside the “candy-bar” phones. The company has positioned it as a retro-inspired device focused on “simplicity and connection” and a tool for “digital detox”. A successor to 2022’s Nokia 2660 Flip phone, the new offering has a classic clamshell design with a modern aesthetic, a mirrored glass front plate, IP54 splash resistance, and 4G VoLTE support.

As for the pricing, the HMD 130 Music and 150 Music will be available in bold colors for around $36. The company will also offer the HMD 2660 Flip in attractive hues, and it will hit the markets for $87 soon.

Lastly, HMD has introduced the Amped Buds as the first TWS in the market with a case that can magnetically charge compatible smartphones. With a 1,600mAh battery, HMD claims that the wearable delivers 95 hours of music playback. HMD has priced the earbuds roughly at $206 and will start selling them in select markets in April in multiple colorways.
