Google's New Model Will Show You Its Thought Process

Google, being one of the biggest AI companies on the planet, has plenty of models for different occasions. Its latest models will be based on Gemini 2.0, which the company announced only a few days ago. Gemini 2.0 Flash Experimental just hit both the Android and iOS app, and this gives people the ability to try out Google’s more advanced AI. Now, Google just announced Gemini 2.0 Flash Thinking, the company’s first reasoning model.

Google announced Gemini back in December 2023, and version 1.0/1.5 became the main model for the year 2024. Now, it looks like Gemini version 2 will carry Google’s AI ambitions for 2025. In fact, Project Astra will be powered by Gemini 2.0. We don’t know when Google will bring the feature to the public, however.

What makes a reasoning model different from a regular LLM is the fact that it explains the reasoning behind its decision. Rather than just giving you the answer, you can expand a little window within the conversation that shows all of the steps the model goes through to get the answer. Depending on how complicated the question is, you might get and extremely long line of steps.
