Google Teases I/O 2025 With ‘Prism Shift’ Puzzle

The road to Google I/O 2025 is underway this morning with a puzzle to figure out the date for the developer conference.

You have to “Guide, reflect, and split beams of light to illuminate beacons” that will help reveal the date of Google I/O 2025. It’s a pretty familiar game format with chill ambient background music.

You move circular mirrors (the ‘O’ in I/O) to light up “nodes.” Once lit, those cube-shaped nodes will stay on. Tap the mirror to rotate and light up the other nodes. “All nodes must be lit to complete a sector.” There are seven or so worlds in total. Meanwhile, there’s a Gemini “riddle.”

In previous years, a certain number of people needed to complete the puzzle before the Google I/O date reveal later in the day.

Mirrors reflect laser beams. They can be moved and rotated.

  • Hold and drag to move a piece. Tap or click to rotate.
  • If a piece is grounded, it cannot be moved or rotated.
  • When pieces are entangled, rotating one will instantly rotate all its partners.

Nodes are powered by laser beams. All nodes must be simultaneously turned on in order to progress.

Beam duplicators duplicate and redirect a laser beam. They can redirect multiple beams simultaneously.

Prisms split light into red, green and/or blue.

Lanterns illuminate dark sections of the board.

Color filters add to and change the color of a laser beam.

  • Color Mixing
  • Green and blue make cyan.
  • Red and blue make magenta.
  • Red and green make yellow.
  • Red, green and blue combined make white.
