Google Quickly Reverted This Annoying Google Maps Change

Millions of people use Google Maps around the world. So, when change comes that people don’t like, they come out in droves to complain. This is what happened with a new change that Google issued. According to a new report, Google reverted the annoying Google Maps change that upset Android Auto users.

The issue began late last month. The company pushed a new change that would center the driver icon to the display itself rather than the UI. This means that, no matter the shape or size of the display you’re using, the driver icon will also be right in the center.

It didn’t have a major impact on the experience for people with larger screens, but people using smaller screens had a bad time. Also, to Google’s credit, the UI would move out of the way once the driver started driving.

While driving, people would see that the directions and other UI elements would obscure the actual map. This could be rather annoying to a person who wants a clear view of the map while they’re driving.

Normally, the driver icon would be centered in relation to the rest of the interface. If the directions are on the left side, the driver icon would be in the middle of the space between the directions and the edge of the display.

This was a rather quick turnaround, as just days after Google brought the change, users are reporting that the company has reverted it. One thing to note is that this was a Google Maps change, not an Android Auto change. Be that as it may, it affected many Android Auto users. Car display consoles come in a more diverse range of shapes and sizes than smartphones.

Google sent out the update, so if you still see the icon centered to the display, make sure you update your Google Maps app. You should be able to see the older interface.
