The trend of AI companies striking deals with publishers doesn’t seem to be ending, at least for now. In this instance, the tech company we are referring to is Google. The company today announced that it is partnering with The Associated Press (AP) to provide Gemini app users with fresh results.
Google and The Associated Press partner to provide the Gemini app with real-time information
To catch you up, Google has long been working with The Associated Press to help users get up-to-date and accurate information through Google Search. Now, the Mountain View giant is betting on the news agency to deliver a feed of real-time information for results shown in the Gemini app.
Google, in the announcement post, notes this will improve the results displayed in the app. Besides, the new feature will be beneficial for users who look for “up-to-date information.” The AP’s Senior VP and Chief Revenue Officer, Kristin Heitmann, acknowledged the latest collaboration and stated, “We are pleased Google recognizes the value of AP’s journalism as well as our commitment to nonpartisan reporting in the development of its generative AI products.”
Google, on the other hand, says that this collaboration is another example of its ongoing effort to support news agencies. The company notes that it has “collaborated and partnered” with news outlets of all sizes around the world. An example given by Google includes helping publishers grow their audience through YouTube, Google Search, and the Google Gemini app.
The company is doing its bit to make journalism better through AI
Google is also actively exploring the benefits of AI to empower journalists. It is doing so through tools and initiatives like Pinpoint and the JournalismAI Innovation Challenge, respectively. The company also notes that it’s currently supporting 35 projects from 22 different countries to strengthen local journalism through AI.
Of course, Google is confident about the future of AI, which is why most of its innovation revolves around it. From its smartphones to apps, Gemini AI is everywhere, and it’s constantly improving.
