Google Meet is updating a trio of existing features today, with a short history now available for live and translated captions.
Previously, live and translated captions in Google Meet on the web “disappeared once they were no longer relevant to the current conversation” given their real-time nature.
You can now “scroll back and review the last 30 minutes of captions at your own pace.” This history appears between the video frames and bottom row of controls. Google Meet will note who’s speaking and what was translated. Once you’re done, there’s a handy “Jump to the bottom” shortcut to get back to the live transcription.
Google notes how this “can be particularly helpful if you’ve missed a portion of the conversation or you want to review specific details mentioned earlier in the conversation.” This captions history for Google Meet on the web is rolling out over the coming weeks for “all Google Workspace customers, as well as users with personal Google accounts.”
Meanwhile, Google Meet today is updating the Gemini-powered “Take notes for me” feature. In addition to “automatically capturing key discussion points and sending a recap email,” Gemini will “capture next steps discussed during the meeting.”
This will appear as a “suggested next steps” section that will also include follow-ups:
You can review and edit the next steps and follow-ups as needed, and even assign the task to someone. This latest note-taking enhancement will help ensure important follow-ups aren’t missed and keeps everyone aligned on what happens next after your meeting.
